I was thinking,(Patrick says, "Leave me alone!") durring missions, you could add squelching and radio feedback before and after each person logs in and off from their head sets. It could be an option,  to be chosen on the, Option's panel, in the Programs Menu. THis would be a Sound guys job, but just something I was thinking when I was playing Mechwarrior. This effect would add the authentic nature of Intercom feedback or radio communications!

I think we could put this to use for NPC's talking to Players.  But due to 3rd Party VoIP systems, it is doubtful we should put it into use...

It would definitely be immersive with the radio squelching on, would defintely work great for npc's. Am not sure how long it would remain favorable from players though in the long term, would they turn it off in the options or not? I turn off a lot of repeatable sounds in games after a few weeks or at the least turn them down so I don't hear it much. It gets a bit repetative and boring after awhile but at the beginning its good. Maybe its used in long distance comms only (dunno) would make it seem more random, explainable by length of distance and key up mic to establish the comms due to length.

What the big H mentioned about 3rd party (vent/ts) is true as well. How much participation in voip in-game use do we expect over the use of 3rd party programs?

Just a few things to take into consideration, but good idea Medyl.

Actually, in retrospect, I am talking about a very short burst before and after talking inside mech's only. As well as, tanks and other support vehicles. In the military,(the burst) is called, "Comms-Chatter!" Just a hint of realism to enhance the experience, within the cock-pit. Also, where certain mechs maybe deployed, and radio silence may be prudent, keep your line open to enemy chatter, may prove helpful. As with everything, it is just an idea, but ideas always make good somehow! Shocked

I understand it would be nice but I think it could get annoying after awhile.

Does this mean NPCs will have voice overs and text? It gets hard to read sometimes when you are in the heat of a battle. Even if you are just trying to read their taunts to you.

The intention is to use voice overs and text.  May not be possible at first but it will be added as a feature.

Hmmm.  You know a start-up sequence ala Mechwarrior 3 would be an awesomely cool immersion effect.  Over in both NBT (when I was active there) and Mek Tek there has been a pining for that in Mercs.

If you really weren't into that sort of thing or if your computer needed a break from resource usage it could be turned off in your options, nu?

Ok, I think there is enough enthusiasm for this.

When we get a script together for NPC's, computers, cut scenes (this is if'fy for a MMO), and such.  We'll make an announcement for the community to submit their own original recordings (please let it be your voice).  Afterall, the majority of all people are not professional voice actors... and most of the time we are talking and listening to regular people.

So this can be considered as another level of realism (in a certain point of view) as well as enhancing community spirit.

In the Senka Corporation, we would leave this task to the Human Resources department, not the CEO.....
