Early this morning, multiple attacks were made using a Mambo msConfig exploit.
Origins of the attacks originated from Amsterdam, NL and Orlando, FL.

The attack scripts were designed to attack a SMF component used by Mambo and Joomla (com_smf), which does not exist.  However, this resulted in a DoS (Denial of Service) attack due from multiple sources attacking at the same time.

So as you can see, if hacking happens in the real-world, it should happen in the virtual-world.

There was ... well still is, a fair amount of FTP attacks going on, but we're good to go and looks like it is all quiet on the front for us.

And when things get quiet...

There was an attempted attack from China by the means of uploading a .php file as a .jpg. The script appeared to fail, just like the attempted car bombing at Times Square.

As of this time, attachments are no longer allowed to be uploaded, instead use the Image Shack plugin provided to each posting.

Additionally all Chinese IP's will be blocked from this point on.

There was defacing conducted yesterday with the traceback from the US -> Morocco -> US. (Proxies are not all they are cracked up to be)  The funny thing about it, was the script-kiddie left his tools behind. Really now... Any good thief knows to never leave the lockpicks laying on the floor after doing a job.

Had been kicking around of putting in a new security system for a week now, and due to yesterday's event, went ahead with it.  And was a good thing.  The attacks resumed this morning and the system appeared to work correctly.

As of this result, I am going to allow access to the IP's of China.
