I'm a big fusion supporter. I think that one day, don't know how long, there will be fusion reactors that will fit inside vehicles. I'm not sure they'll do that, as the amount of energy produced would be far more than one needs to produce forward motion. Once a way is figured out to control the massive heat involved, Moore's Law will take effect, making it smaller, cheaper, faster.
I couldn't imagine a gasoline or diesel powered Mech.
