Close range combat?

In the specs of the Knight mech it says that that particular mech can wield close range weapons. How will this be implemented in the game as most mechs are oriented towards guns, missiles etc. How will you get close enough in a real battle to actually use a weapon such as a blade etc. ?

Close Range Combat is unlikely to occur in most battles due to the ranges of direct and missile weapons. A Mech with just close range weapons charging the enemy out in the typical terrain of the world is likely to be put out of action before striking. However, a clever team of players may be able to get in close range Mechs by splitting into two teams, one as a diversion, while the other maneuvers at the flanks using terrain (hills) for concealment to get in close. Or for the daring... air drop into combat.
Close Combat will most likely occur in cities, box canyons and arena matches. Visibility and Line of Sight is greatly reduced which negates the advantage of ranged weapons.

Thank you for explaining that. That really helps build a better image of the combat system for me. Also the explanation of the different terrains and their combat aspects is quite helpful in deciding, when the game is released, what type mech I'll search for.

I hope I can run a mid-range (capable of melee and ranged) mech if possible. Will I get to?
