This is a topic I already mentioned in the xp loot/salvage thread but I thought it should be posted here. How should blueprints be handled? Should engineers be able to sell limited production run blue print copies? (EVE Style) or should they be limited to selling the finished product. I can't imagine any engineer wanting to sell an actual blue print original, but should the option be on the table? That's like a magician explaining how he does a trick.

I'm for that selling of designs or blueprints has no limit and can be used as however often as desired.  However, designs or blueprints should not be traded away.  Should be kept as close as possible, or make a licensing arrangement.

Blueprinting is a huge part of EVE and i totaly approve of it...being able to make mechs and parts for them mechs would be a great addition to any corp

I think its a good idea.

however I think EVEs "limited run blueprint" idea is kinda stupid.  What's stoping someone from simply looking at the thing and copying the information or if its in an electronic format hacking the thing to remove the limit.

It has be stated that people will be able to make an modify item and for this reason I think it would be a good idea to separate blueprints into two categories, Production and Construction.

Production blueprints would be for things like refined metals. polymers, wire etc. which would be used to produce base parts for use in constructing things.  Production blueprints themselves would be very expensive however the products they allow someone to create would be cheep to produce.

Construction blueprints would be for things like Mechs, Vehicls, Aircraft, weapons, clothing, computers, etc. and any variations of these.  Basically Construction blueprints would be blueprints that players are able to make an modify allowing themselves and others the ability to reproduce something without the need for knowing exactly how the creation system works, these blueprints would be cheep but the products they allow you to create would be expensive(relative the the production costs of the component parts).

So, Will you actually be able to make/design/create blueprints in the true sense of all 3 of those words.  I'll be able to design the way the arm is configured? or the shape/size of the head or will it be like EVE? where all the blueprints are the same and you just get them to self produce mechs , because its cheaper then trying to buy it.  if you have a way to retrieve all the resources required?

(erm slightly off topic- will there be Close Quarter type mechs? with like blades?)

I don't think you will be able to customize a part like you are thinking, however I know you can mix and match different parts like legs, chassis, head, arms, and things that are attached to these, which is what my separation of blueprint types is derived from, so one kind makes components, and the other makes the end products.

yes you will be able to use CQC weapons.

*sniff* but it'd be so cool to be able to build a mech from the ground up. starting at the feet , will you spend a fortune to make it hover? or cheapest way possible add rollers ? or make it the more common way and have it walk normally, build it with the toughest metal composites you can find. or the cheapest? or will you make you're own and keep it 'secret' . will you add the new core on the market, design it yourself? buy some rundown model , then modify it. will the cockpit be in the head or the chest? will it have 1 seat or 2? will it have turrets? or guns?

would add so much customization . i mean it shouldnt be cheaper then buying one , or the factory to produce it. of course if you're a scavenger it wouldnt cost as much as someone making it purely out of cost . thou shouldn't be any shown stats after all you dont know how damage a Tank cant take, or how a car will handle.till its tried. and proven.  just like a person doesnt know how skilled they are at something till they've done it and compared it to other people.

maybe I was a bit to vague, nearly everything you describe here has been said to be going into the game at some point in time, so you will be able to  customize an extraordinary amount of things on and within your craft however from your first post I thought it sounded like you were asking if you would be able to change the dimensions of parts which I'm sure you will not be able to do.

You may want to look at threads regarding player designed Mechs.
