Mobile repair unit

In Mechwarrior 3, if im not wrong, there was stacionary mech bays to repair mechs, that, when used properly could give a good advantage to a player.
Why not implement this in FOA but this time whit…mobility.
Imagine a big, no...an huge and slow truck, loking more like a train, with 4 or 5 compartments (or carriages) traveling in the BIG desert. When it stops (lots of dust in the air) the compartments start to move (with hydraulic help) until it makes a semicircle with the truck. After that, the main machine starts to elevate hes compartement that will repair the mechs. The other carriages are just to transport the amunitions and other stuff, and maybe one or two of them could have some guns/lasers to protect the Mobile Repair Unit (M.R.U.).
Just my little wish

M.R.U.'s as you called them are expected for use. Though most mobile ground engineering vehicles would only support one Mech at a time. A dropship version has been modeled (to support multiple Mechs), but the ground version hasn't been completed.

Interesting
When can we see that model?
But i think that a guild/clan can only have one of this in "later game", since i supose this will be very expensive to have. Making the M.R.U. more viable in the beginning of the game.

I think any type of extensive field repair is a silly. Perhaps if all they did was replenish ammo and fuel I could dig but don't go overboard and make them anything like MFBs in Mw3 or the repair bays in Mw4.
Repairs should take time and that should be directly related to the extent of the damage and the quality of the facilities doing the repairing. Anything that's mobile shouldn't have any capabilities beyond the basic levels.
Field repairs should be very limited. Maintenance centers and motor pools should have the facilities to repair most damage. Manufacturing centers located in capitol cities should have full repair capabilities. And then on top of all that you have to factor the skill of the technicians and mechanics which will operate said systems.

Im with lkavadas on this one. I can understand an avatar with the appropriate skill being able to make some combat repairs (spot welding, replacing some armor plates, perhaps changing out cockpit glass) but not totaly repair a mech back to full fighting strength in 20 seconds.

I argee with Kellzz and lkavadas, I think the M.R.U. should not be able to repair a mech to full health, but it should be able to repair it to basic working condition. Perhaps these M.R.U. should be mainly use by a salvenger team or a combat engineer to repair a downed mech to basic level and move it to a dropship for more repair.

I think we all agree to this, that repairs should be similar to the time frame based on realistic terms or to how it was applied in the Mech Warrior RPG (the book RPG, not the computer games).

Well, without getting into trouble, I have modeled several models on that but this is how I see MRU's in our game! So bear with me. I see a railroad like, repair carrousel. A mech vehicle would walk in and rotatate on a rotatating platform, similiar to that of those used to service trains and large machinery in industrial yards. I dont want to see sparks or drill sounds like in "Mechwarrior 3" with the Mobile MRU's and I sure as heck dont want the feel of luggage or a side-bay carwash feel to the repair bay. I would like it to have the look and feel of a real-time repair yard. Also to have some defensive weapons with close proximity. A real life bay would not be out in the open and it would not be so loosely guarded in realife if it was attatched to a base, like in many of the "Mechwarrior scenes and levels of 3&4!

MRU would be nice if more expensive repairs are needed to get you up and running, but I personally would love to see a character with a toolbox and a roll of duct tape. That would be a true patch job...hehe.
On a serious note for in field repair I would like to see different levels. If say a leg servo was taken out a quick patch job may be needed to get things up and running. In this case you wouldn't need to roll out a large repair unit. On the other hand if you have power issues, motors are damaged, etc., you meay need to bring out a repair unit. Then if you take that farther you may not even be able to repair it at all in the field and the only way to get your mech "home" is to call in a dropship.

you forgot repair procedure #1....Kick it!
#2....hit it with a hammer.
If those will not work..break out the bailing wire.
