I was wonder if there are going to be any combat simulators?

I know it sounds pretty funny having a game inside a game Tongue...but the way I see how combat simulators work could be
1.training newer players how to control a mech for the first time
2.fight someone for fun and not loses/gain anything
3.they could be testing different mech equipment combanations.

People just get in a simulator and then maybe they could select or customize their mech and fight someone else. When they die in the simulator they just come back out of the simulator and nothing bad happens to them.

I hope this sugguestion helps Cool

This sounds good just make it so they fight an NPC thats either the exact same as the user (mech equipment wise) or make it so the user can choise what type of mech and loadout they can test against. Only problem I can see is people sitting in them and improving there handling of there mech before they even leave the safety of the sim. So there would need to be a restriction on how many times a day or something on it. Other then that great idea and im in suport of it.

Reminds me of the first Wing Commander game that had a simulator.

I don't know when we'll get to it, as it has a low priority (additional games within one game), but there does need to be one.

There could be also option for peoples with higer faction rep to train with faction forces. It would be kida like normal combat sim but they would get some small amount of chits if they are victorious. When you have few min spare you can jump for a quick match.

If anything I'd just steal the entire combat simulator concept from PlanetSide and what they had the in the facilities.  Was pretty much perfect IMO.

Also could be used to test for rising through the ranks of a faction, ie you need to beat customized npc y or someone in your faction of the rank you're trying to achieve a certain number of times in order to be eligible

Hmm, im not sure if a simulator has to be treated as a game within a game. Could a simulator be coded similar to how the instances in WoW work? Instead of re-loading the game, you just load into an instance with pre-defined settings.

Im not too sure if giving out rewards/reputation/prestige just because you sat in the protected space of a simulator is in the best intrest of the game. If anything, a player needs to prove themselves and risk life and machine.

I would make the simulator single player only (if/when it is implemented) If you allowed multiple people to join into a session for a mock fight, thats all players would do then. No one would be out fighting real battles. given the perma death system, no one would risk it.

Perhaps allowing players to test different setups with mechs they own.

OMG yes this is a must!  Having a pvp-centric game that risks multiple million dollar mechs, yes sir I would like to train with the much less expensive VR!  If anyone remembers the training sims from X-wing and Tie Fighter, I think that type of sim would be the required minimum, especially when you gained a new certification.  Wouldn't want to lose your mech first time out of the garage because it handled differently than your previous cert!  You even got a badge for completing the sim Smiley.  A badge would be about all I would give someone for VR though, actual payments for sitting in a sim seems overindulgent.  To me, it would be the same as asking Wardog Studios to pay us a monthly fee for playing Cheesy.

I would have characters start without a mech and have to train in a simulator to be eligable to obtain their, "pilot's license." I think this would be best because not everyone playing will want to be a mech pilot. There will be engineers, researchers, traders, aircraft pilots, tank pilots, power armor wielders, mobile repair technicians, and I'm sure you all can think of more. This way players not intending to be mech pilots will not be forced to waste skill training time and points on skills they aren't going to use. It also allows players a means to test module combinations.

Okay this is a rip from MPBT, Solaris was the place everyone went to to "train" with their mechs.  You could take any size mech down into a combat zone and players in the same unit could battle each other, no harm / no foul and no mech losses.  You could also take anyone from any faction and on any map and train with them.

Thats where my unit invented MECH FU!  The super secret ninja art of killing opponent mechs without weapons.  (We were Davs but hey. . .  Snakes were too damn easy with weapons so we had to give them a chance. . .  even though it was a small one :p )

This is also where we discovered a flaw in the physics of the game. It seems if you were to "jump" to perform a DFA on an opponent and he jumped up just as you were going down into his mech's head you would be boosted up to super extreme heights. My personal best record was 21K straight up. Had an incredible view of the map from up there too. The mech who was "boosting" you was usually destroyed in the process and when you landed, if you didn't have enough fuel in your jump jets you were toast as well... but thats how we were the first unit in MPBT to find SHEEP!

Best part of sheep finding, was the sheep massacre that followed! Ohh... thats something else this game really will need... SHEEP!

You mean there were sheep in that game world?  As in little white four legged defenseless animals??  That you would just stomp on???

Oh the horror...
Oh the blood...
Oh the ... oh wait, sheep blood is red, might fool the enemy into thinking you have stomped on their infantry.

Ah yes... SHEEP!!! The squishy white meat!  laugh

Yes, on all maps that were of "farmland" quality if you looked in the right places you would find little puffs of white that would scamper about your mechs feet.

The coders put them in as a joke and it stayed as a "bonus" to anyone fighting since the rest of the scenery was not destructible.

I won many a fight finding sheep on a map. I was the last man standing in a 4x4 match and they had 2 mechs left... a heavily damaged hunchie and a jenner, ya know the 2 legged targets that everyone loved to blow the legs off of? Well I was in my jav with 2 med lasers left and found the sheep. Called it on open coms and pinged myself so they could find me. While they were happily... well more like gleefuly... stomping away, I DFA'd the hunchie and alpha'd the jenners left leg... they make funny circles when you do that.

Since I blew up the hunchie, took some damage that took out the rest of my lasers I jumped and DFA'd the Jenner, usually I like taking their legs off first and then just standing outside of their laid down fire radius and blasting them slowly with my lasers until they go boom.

It was a hell of a fight... but as a reward I got to kill the rest of the sheep before the battle ended. Pissed off the jenner pilot but... he was a snake so I could care less. :p

lol my time in mechwarrior was limited but that was my fav tactic also immmobolize the legs then take your time picking them apart.muhahahaha and if i remember DFA was "death from above" a jump tactic where you came down on thier heads or tops or whatever they had up there right?im curious though i wonder if you eject from yo9ur mech in this game will you be targetable to kill.not that i as a senkan mekiddo (or wanna be lol) would do sometrhing so dishonorable.just curious.
