I would say, harvesters are open for attacks.  Thus place harvesters in safe areas or places that hardly anyone will travel to.  Or figure out some way to protect such areas...

I like it.

Maybe make some harvesters mobile and then you could make some nice starter missions being an escort/defensive duty.
No matter how exotic human civilization becomes, no matter the developments of life and society nor the complexity of the machine/human interface, there always come interludes of lonely power when the course of humankind, depends upon the relatively simple actions of single individuals.

This thread's been dead for a while but I'd like to throw in a suggestion. That is every corporation is going to have it's own N.P.C. run Harvesters gathering resources for it's corporate business that they use to run their day to days and pay players for running missions. But I also think that players should be able to personally pilot and harvesters to gather their own resources and that they should be vulnerable to attack. After all what are independent factions going to do for resources when the break off from the "Big 4"? They can't rely on salvaged materials alone. I guess they could hire N.P.C. harvester pilots kind of like mercenaries. However if hired harvesters are used they should yield less than a player harvesting depending on mercenary cost and player's harvesting skill.
