Settlement and Petition Information

We have established forums for Player Settlements to give our forum participants an opportunity to help shape our game world. We would like to see our forum users design their own early settlement upon the planet and flesh it out with unique ideas. The goal is to have player communities rally together to design an interesting settlement that may be created by the developers within the game. Imagine having the opportunity to walk around and see and hear the sights and sounds you helped create.

Wardog Studios will work to add the best player settlement (as selected by the development team) into the game. We want to see forum users work together as teams on their concepts. In order to achieve this goal and to limit the number of settlements under review, we are requiring the use of forum petitions. A petition must have 10 unique people sign it before the settlement will have a forum set up for it (this number may change in the future). A subforum will then be created and titled with the settlement's proposed name. We then expect the settlers (forum community) to continue working on their ideas in the area set aside for this. As time passes, new people may choose to join existing settlements based on their preferences or rally support for a new concept. This allows both new and forum users to have input in creating their ideal settlement upon the planet. Remember, 10 unique signatures are required to gain an official settlement.

Please post petitions for settlements in this forum. Ideas about proposed settlements can also be posted in this forum until there is enough support for a successful petition.

Just 2 questions, can the petition be signed on another forum and the link be posted here?

That may depend on where the other forum is located. If you're talking about an "off-site" forum (a place other than www.forceofarms.com), we'd have to disqualify that. If you're talking about starting the petition in another forum section on the FOA forums site that would likely be alright. However, we'd be inclined to just move it to this forum section to help keep things organized. If a settlement idea began in something like the roleplaying section of our forums and reached a point where people wanted to make it into a player settlement, the best course of action would be to start a petition in this forum area with a link to the roleplaying posts.

The overall goal is to create an opportunity for Force of Arms forum users.

what kinda agriculture we talkin? or is it just mines?

It is the distant future and there is abundant sunlight. Water is of limited availability and would likely be reprocessed many times, if not indefinitely unless your settlement chose to exist on or near the ice cap which is perpetual night. External soil conditions tend to be poor by Earth standards. Greenhouses and the like are something you may want consider. Another option I'll throw out on the table includes cavernous fungal farms, etc.

So, will soil be better farther from the ice cap?
If so would it be possible for a person to export water from the ice cap to the area with better soil, for profit? Like the water merchant in Dune: House Harkonnen.

It might be a possibility, but it would be a bold expedition to brave the eternal night and frigid temperatures of the ice cap region. You would need to think of a way to maintain some method of channeling water over a vast distance. Also give consideration to maintenance of equipment, etc. Water could possibly be a profitable business venture. A route like this could also be an appealing target or something worth fighting for control over.

Soil quality of the planet is overall fairly poor at this stage. Though there will be certain pockets that are superior to others due to geology and geographic features of a vast planet.

Any water collected would be a surplus over what was originally possessed and could easily become a commodity at this point.
