Honey, you’re not going to believe me, but we’re not alone on this rock. We were out on the fringe tonight and we were attacked! They weren’t no ordinary scavengers though. I swear it! They had some sort of skiff with wicked blades all over the thing and they fired some sort of harpoon into our side like we were a desert whale. I think we caught a lucky break when their cable snapped before they rammed into the side of us. They bounced off just leaving one nasty gash in our side. One good salvo into their rear seemed to send them on their way, but I don’t think that will be the last we see of them.

I’ll tell ya what was worst of all... they looked like they’d been out there for longer than we have been. It happened so fast, but their skin looked cracked… like they’d been out there for years and without much water. I mean, they looked like zombies with their flesh all sunken in. I don’t think a single one of them had any hair either. It was like it had been cooked off by the heat. They even had a skeleton hanging off of the skiff like some sort of trophy.

Do you think I should report it to HQ or just pretend that we had an accident and just pay for the repairs? I’m not eager to become the local laughingstock and I’m sure they’d just say it was the heat playing tricks. I’ll tell ya what, I don’t want to have another run in with those skiffers though. I think I’ll be putting in for two weeks vacation to see what others find out before I go heading back into the desert. I’ll also be loaded out for a fight before I ever head back out.

If the leave gets approved I should be home any day.
